Research times again.

I have 3 colonies now and my maximum research output is 201 points. Looking at research tree I can see that the majority of technologies will require 1-3 turns and this is without all research buildings.

So lets thinks about it too and prepare new costs for next galaxy restart.

So do you mean they are too high or too low?

And realisticalywould you put all planets onto research? I only have one partly on research, and am making 21 points per turn...so it takes ages to get anything...

If they were any higher it would take even longer...

If a player has 3 planets early on and put them all on research then 3 turns a research is fine, but its already turn 370 and I only have basic things...and dont want to just do research but want to build

I have 4 large planets, and have only built 1 lab on my home planet, with 8 scientists...I have no labs on the other planets, and no scientists...I don't want to have labs on every planets...SO...maybe increase maintenance of science buildings? These are high tech labs, so should cost more...and I wouldn't be too woried about this.

Science isn't something you should be putting 100% of population on. Else you will get through the tech too fast, but also it shouldnt be made slower, because I don't put much on, and in that case it would be VERY slow...but more you should make it harder/expencive for players to get a lot of science points. So they can do fast research, but at a cost to empire development in other areas...

Maybe make the research center 1 maintenance, and add a fair bit more to the other science buildings...that could help...but don't make research center higher than 1, because this is meant for the start

Ok, here are some ideas for science building maintenance, also make them more expencive to build, the fisrt number below is build cost, the second maintenance:

Research Center 60, 1

Planetary Supercomputer 1000, 5

Automatic Laboratory 1200, 15

Astro University 600, 2

Galactic Cyber Network 1500, 15

Something like that?

I think science buildings should be a huge investment, and not something that you can cheaply build. This makes sence, as high tech labs with the best equipment will cost tons anyway, much more than a farm or factory...

Also, maintenance is higher, because of the ammounts of energy and chemicals etc needed in the labs, and replacing expencive things etc.

Research buildings need to be harder to get, these seem quite easy at 160 points each, where the good production buildings are 1000+. Make science harder to get and people won't be so bothered early on, and if they do they will not have the means to defend themselves if someone attacks

Right now I see a few different strategys at the start:

Science - Research really fast and get really good tech early on.

Military - Build a fleet fast and attack enemys while they are weak.

Economy - Get colonisation fast and take the good planets before anyone else can. (This is my strategy I am using, and always used in DQ:E)

Depending on your strategy you will do really well in certain areas. If you concentrate on science then you should get through it quite fast, although it shouldn't be too easy.

If though you are on the other paths science is a lot harder to get, I have been making 20 -30 points maximum most of the round so far, but I have 11 planets and (if their wasnt a bug with population growth) would have a REALLY good economy now, and making 100+ production on each planet. I could easily defend myself against attackers If I had to I think. But, if you keep putting up the amount of science needed these paths also get made harder, almost impossible. So it makes science the only possible route by then. If you make science buildings harder/expencive to get, then it helps stop the science route being too easy, but soes not get in the way of the others so much

So overall it depends on your aproach from the start. I think science is a little to easy to get, because the buildings are cheap, and easy to research. But research points are fine for most things but a too low for science, and a little too high on production and farming buildings.

How is that the maximum you cant get?

That doesnt make any sense at all... cant you get up to at least 100 per colony?

I thought the research times were fine.

I think the points needed are fine, but also, 200 isnt much.

Many are taking over 1000 to research so thats 5 turns, and other over 2000 points, so 10 turns...and thats with your whole empire on science.

I am now making about 180 points from 2 planets, and have 12 planets in total, and have a huge income, and lots of stuff building. I am building everything faster then I can research, so have had to make more effort on science...

I think the science buildings should be more expencive and harder to research, because this will stop players being able to make too many points easily, but wont effect the players only making a few and doing other things...

I have all science buildings researched and built on one planet and most on a second. I think the researches might need some tweaking for later players, especially once people get a research queue. Im not sure how they can be tweaked, and im still not too far along in most, but the top science building was 2560, and i would have to guess that the last armors, shields, and engines would be double that if not more.

I've altered a bit science building values (see encyclopedia), but not so drastically as you proposed . Lets see how it works in next phase.

Is that why i lost all of them?

Heh, ok

I guess they were a little drastic

Im closing in on 300 science a turn and only 2 planets actually have scientists.

Hmm, I think research things need to be more expencive still. I dont think small changes will make much difference...maybe up to 5 on the best buildings for maintenance, although maybe more on build cost also...

The reason is to stop players building these on all planets, but just on a few, to hold research back more...

I think researching is fine the way it is. I have 320 research points a turn with full buildings researched and it still takes me several turns to do the bigger ones.

If you havent noticed, the galaxy is at or over 2/3 gone (even though its endless), and ive been researching heavily, and im not even close to halfway done with them.

Also, why should researches be more expensive then they are now? You seem like youre trying to make them expensive even for people who have 50 planets and a thriving empire.

Eventually things are going to have to be affordable. This galaxy isnt young anymore, the researches take long enough as it is.

Besides, wouldnt it be best just to have around 100 turns for a huge war at the end? Why should the last turn tick JUST as you finally get the most expensive technology, theres no point to that.

Well, I think normaly the rounds will be 3000 turns, not 1000, so in these it will work out better to make them slower. This is just 1000 for testing I think...not sure...

Also, I would like their to be some death match rounds. Where their is limited time to join up, and after this no new players can join the galaxy. After this it continues forever untill only 1 empire/alliance remains
