I'd like to suggest the ability to recycle creatures or maybe "compost" them or convert them to organs? Instead of just killing them, it might be helpful if you can take your leftover anizaks after an assimilation and convert them into Biogel or organs. It would give you another option besides re-location. It could be a fairly poor conversion rate, but it might be better than just killing them.

The ability to protect a star from being collapsed. If a Lone fagur empire were to try to take over the Guardian planets, and was close to winning, he would lose just because some Krong came along and collapsed his star ~ and he couldn't protect it... and since he was not in an alliance, he couldn't have anyone else protect it.

"Resicling" a creature is a good idea, but it should be implemented with respective funtionality for each race, i.e. scrap human space units etc.
