Short description of invasion.

There are 3 types of planetary troops:
- Soldiers
- Mechs
- Fighters

Maximum number of each kind on a planet directly depends on current population:
- Soldiers = (population * 4). On large Alpha-Gaea planet max is 100.
- Mechs = (population * 2). On large Alpha-Gaea planet max is 50.
- Fighters = (population * 1). On large Alpha-Gaea planet max is 25.

Each kind is produces by its respective building:
- Soldiers: produced by marine barracks 1 each 4 turns until maxed out.
- Mechs: produced by armored barracks 1 each 8 turns until maxed out.
- Fighters: produced by fighter garrison 1 each 16 turns until maxed out.

Drop ships:
- Each drop ship can carry 4 soldiers, 1 mech and 1 fighter (if respective technologies were researched)

Battle:
- When dropped some percentage of planetary population will be converted into militia to fight aside with military units (if any).
- 20% of population will be converted into militia. On large Alpha-Gaea planet max is 12.

Strength (S - shield, H - health/structure, A - attack strength):
- Militia S: 0, H: 1, A: 1 (technology does not influence its stats)
- Soldiers S 1+, H 1+, A 1+ - depends on researched technology (maybe there will be a new tech sub-tree for personal weaponry)
- Mechs S 2+, H 2+, A 2+ - depends on researched technology (maybe there will be a new tech sub-tree for personal weaponry)
- Fighters S 4+, H 4+, A 4+ - depends on researched technology (maybe there will be a new tech sub-tree for personal weaponry)

EDIT: Changed population conversion to militia to 20% (from 50%).

I still have a question opened, how much a drop ship should cost and how big it's maintenance should be?

Hmm, I think they should be cheap, as you have already had to train the troops, and thats cost money, and is also harder.

Maybe 100 for a transport, and 0.5 maintenance? Something like this?

Anyway, also, what happens with troops etc on ships? I mean is it possible to have hundreds of troops in ships, and still have full planets. Because as population grows, you could keep moving your population to ships and keep getting more. This isnt nessasarily a bad thing though...

You probably didn't get the entire picture of how troops are working.

You don't "build" soldiers, mechs and fighters like in DQ:E. They are automatically trained on each planet in your Marine Barracks, Armor Barracks and Fighter Garrison. One unit at a period of time. You don't "upload" troops from planets to drop ships like in DQ:E either. When building a drop ship you build it full with troops: 4 soldiers 2 mechs and 1 fighter (if necessary techs are researched), regardless of troops you have on planet. You can unload drop ships on a planet to max out its troops though. Drop ship in this case will be destroyed.

This schema is borrowed from MOO2 and it worked grate. This is done for game simplicity. I already have comments that game is becoming too complex

All this said I think that drop ship should be relatively cheap for construction but not so cheap for maintenance.

EDIT: Should invasion take place in first battle round or when all orbital defenses are destroyed?
EDIT: New technologies were added for troops.

PS: Glad to see you are back K.

Oh, that makes sence. And yeah, it is getting a bit complex, but as long as its all explained then shouldnt be too much of a problem.

Yeah, I think it should happen in stages like in DQ:E. So would go:

Fleets > Orbital Defences > Ground Defences > Population

I was thinking that maybe population should only fight right towards the end, when nothing else is left. Sort of like a resistance to the invaders. Also, this works best, because its annoying if your population die in a small battle. Or if you beat the enemy, but loose most of your population. Makes rebuilding hard etc.

Also, I was thinking about stellar converter. As like a bonus to having many planets in the same star, could it be possible that when a planet is attacked, and you have other planets in the same star with stellar converter, these planets could all fire the stellar coverter also. To add extra damage to the fight.

My reason for this is that often I build a capital system with many planets. I have my biggest fleets here and also it would be good if all the planets helped each other...maybe even troops could help out? Maybe have an option like help allies so allied planets will help each other.

Invasion will take place when no orbital defenses or any enemy fleet are present. Militia is fighting from the beginning, but chances that a militia unit will be hit is only 10%. Thus in majority of battles they will be killed last.

Well, this is quite hard to implement at the moment. Helping troops it is not possible at all. There is a possibility for stellar converter though. But I'll leave it for later times.

BTW: Invasion seams to be implemented

Ok, so do you want some things writing for the encyclopedia? I will try and do some things, been busy recently, hopefully get some time as its bank holiday here monday...and I have tomorrow also.

Anyway, what exactly is needed? I can write some more building descriptions. Also, had an idea for the automated farms that is really being used now. So I may rewrite that one.

Basicaly real farms are using computer driven machines that use GPS for location, they are supposed to be really accurate. And right now I think they have humans inside incase anything goes wrong, but they could run alone, and in the future I bet they will, maybe even do right now...

So, going by that I think its more realistic for the automated farms.

We need everything that was not covered in encyclopedia, yet. From first steps in the game to buildings and equipment description. I'll activate help so you could see what is missing.

Ok, writing the guide is harder than I though it would be, things are quite hard to explain

Anyway, I will make a new thread for discussing the guide

How do you invade? I cant work it out...

I tried using the fleet path, and that dont seem to work, when I try and add a star to it, nothing happens...I have the fleet at the star where I want to invade, but cant work out how

Also, how do you bombard. I have transports and ships with bombs in my fleets, but cant seem to use them.

Also, can you use transports and bombers to invade, so that the bombers attack and the troops invade after?

Use fleet path. Add a star, select invade command and select target planet. Then press go button if path is not in progress. Same for bombardment. Simultaneous bombardment and invasion is not possible.

How do I add a star? When I enter the name and click the search button, a box shows with the star name, but then I cant do anything from that point. Clicking the star name does nothing, and if I click 'Add' I get an invalid fleet message.

This is in IE7 if thats causing the problem...

Yes, this is IE7 specific problem. It works fine under FF2. I'll check it asap. Meanwhile try it under FF or Opera.
