Tried to invade the planet again (battle id 644), found a defense Surface Battle Damage consistent with very close to 10000 damage per troop.

Interesting... I made a little analysis of the 4 invasion attempts I made this evening. Here's the key numbers:
Att Def
Dmg Pop Troops Dmg
61495 708400 23653 237932144
175215 708400 50000 503361600
175215 1227150 50000 871674112
175215 57600 50000 41293600
A regression analysis reveals the following formula for defenders damage:
Dmg = Pop * 710 + Troops * 10074 - 503320967
This is a very good fit, the relative error is in the order of 10^-8.
Where those coefficients come from is another question Interestingly, the constant 503320967 is very close to the actual defender damage in one of the battles... which just happens to be the first in the series (lowest battle id). Don't know if this is any help in the debugging. Assuming, ofc, that this IS a bug

The values in reports are quite odd. I think it might be a bug. Will take a look at it.
