Unless theres something planned that im not aware of, which there probably is, i suggest a planet cap.
I dont know how K handles it, but ive been developing 40-odd planets all the way up and it is a bitch to do. I took my 20 minutes to assign all my planets build orders and i dont see how anyone could stand to have more then 50 or even more the 100 planets.
I mean you do need a lot of planets to do things and you can do them a little bit or all at once. Once these planets have all the buildings, itll be easier, but its annoying as sin to have to do them all at once.
Would it be possible for a "mass build" feature? Like you tell the empire to build a Nano dissassembling lab and those that dont have it build one and those that do sit idle?
Anything to break the monotony would help.

| This is from interface enhancements group. It has very low priority, could be done though.
On a side small quantity of micromanagement blocks the desire to colonize each and every planet in the galaxy As I said before I expect 10-15 planets for each player in average and 15 planets are ok for management.

I dont like planet limits, in DQ:E at first their was a limit of 20, and while it stops people taking them all, and forces battles for expansion, its not nice, because it limits strategys. If all you have is 20 it dont matter when you colonise, so research becomes the only real option. When you have a huge (or unlimited) cap then you can take all the good planets early, and so even though your not physicaly attacking, your weakening your enemys another way by preventing them from getting resources.
I also dont see a problem with empires having huge amounts. If they expand too fast they will be easy targets, if they protect them all and can handle them, then good for them. They have the strategy to support it. It wouldnt be fair to limit that really.
In DQ:E it was different, as each race used planets differently, a human with 50 planets was much different than a fagur with 50 planets, and for krong that would be nothing. But now everyone is equal, and has the same chance, so if one is better at expanding why shouldn't they have the advantage? Having a limit would be like having a maximum damage limit in battles.
Also, I said about a mass build option in another thread a few days back This message was edited by Emperor L

Ok, for the sake of sanity and me having a life, we need a planet cap I think
I would say 30 would be about right, its not too low that it prevents growth too much, but also isnt so high you need to spend all day ordering stuff...

| Your planet cap is in your mind I have 5 planets and don't plan to have more than 20 in any galaxy

I told you
Anyways, i have about 50 planets, only like 2-3 alpha-gaea and i make enough credits to support my fleets of battleships.
Im still building up on them, 80% or more are completely done, and if i need more, i can colonize in little bits.
I DO think a planet cap would make things more challenging.

Don't agree here
I can make next galaxy having about 100 systems. An average of 25 systems per player. We make a full scale war game. This way you'll be in those conditions a galaxy should be. All these after battle implementation of course.
What do you think?

Well, yeah that could work, see how it goes then...but in a situation like that it becomes even more important to take the good planets first.
But yeah, thats a good experiment to see what it works like

I personally dont agree.
Whoever hits colonization ships first will take the good planets first and, in doing so, effectivly win.
The galaxies are supposed to be large to A: Hold lots of players. B: Have lots of room to grow.

| In some way you are right, but for test purposes its quite good. For the death match galaxies it's ideal.
A death match galaxy should be relatively small so no colony hide and seek could be possible.
