I'm going to start a FAQ for humans on this thread. If you're new, please post any and all questions you have, even if you figure out the answer to the question.

Q: What do production complexes have to do with the amout of time it takes to build something?
A: For the planet concerned, the number of production complexes are subtracted from the amount of time it takes to build something. The final amount of time taken is listed under the object you're building, on the build screen FOR the concerned object.
ex: First planet - I've built 0 production complexes, and the amount of time it takes to build a colonization ship is 72 turns. SO, in human
terms, I'm going to have to wait 24 hours before the ship is ready.
Second planet - I've built 40 production complexes, and the amount of time it takes to build a colonization ship is 32 turns. SO, in human
terms, I'm going to have to wait about 10 hours before the ship is ready.

Q: On explore interface, what does the "eta" and the numbers signify?
A: eta stands for estimated time of arrival. The first group of numbers inside the "[]" signify the total number of turns its going to take. Multiply that by 20 and divide by 60 to get the total number of hours it's going to take. The second group of numbers indicate what time, according to the in-game time frame, it will be when the system has been explored.
ex: Click "explore" button. Send a satellite to a system you want to explore. Look at the "Already sent to" list that shows up. If it says eta [9] 1:5:3, that means that it takes 5 hours to explore, and the in-game time will be 1:5:3 when it's done exploring.

Hint: Build resource based planets
ex: A small planet with Rich Minerals, Rich Metals, and Rich Biomass is awesome, but you're going to have problems deciding what you want to build on the planet. 3 Large planets with alternating Rich Minerals, Rich Metals, and Rich Biomass are much better, because you can concentrate on Metals on one, Minerals in another, etc.

Also take in mind that construction science increase factory power,
if you have 30% science, 30 factory act as 40 factory

Ah, about that, can you explain it? I'm reaaaly confused as to what research/science does.

By constructing science labs and managing your priorities in science form your empire will research new technologies in several fields. We do not specify what technology your scienties researched, but rather giv a bonus (usualy in %). Each science field give some advantages for a propries parameter of your empire. (see Human guide)

For example say we have built 40 production complexes on a planet. If you have no bonuses in "Construction" science field then the amount of time it takes to build a colonization ship is 32 turns. Let say that you did researches in "Construction" science field and have 30% bonus that means that your construction complexes will work 30% better, i.e. the amount of time it takes to build a colonization ship is 20 turns.

Can you explain (using examples) how a human empire can 'conquer' a planet? The guide's not very clear about this.

This is very simple

1. You must build fleet with transport, each transport can carry 50 troops, but i recommend to build more transport, experimental value
is near 1000 transport for 5000 troops
2. Follow any link to planet screen (where placed your fleet and where exist any troops in planet), under star image you can see some buttons
from left to right :fleets,Orbital bases,load/unload troops and population etc
3. Click "load/unload " button and load troops from planet to your transport
4. Now, your fleet is ready for invasion

Can only add:

5. Select a fleet with transports loaded with troops and give it the conquer order.

Is there a way to split a fleet? Say I have a fleet with 100 fighters and 5 transports, and I want the 5 transports in a seperate fleet. Possible?

Fleets will split automaticaly when you send them with a mission. Fleets with same mission or in idle mode will join automaticaly.

How do you decrease the amount of time needed to build Orbital Bases? I've already researched quite a lot, and the build times for my ships etc, have gone down, but the Orbital Bases are still at 120 time.

Uh.. do you mean a 1000 transports with 50,000 troops OR a 100 transports with 5000 troops?

No he means exaclty 1000 transports for 5000 troops. That is to minimize your looses during dropping phase, as planetary defences will try to get them down.

You need to have at least 1 production complex on planet you are building your orbital base at.

Is there any way to see the max population per planet? Alternatively, is there a public formula for calculating it?
