What is the difference between weapon types, like turrets and torpedoes?

Photon(named proton) torpedoes and ion turrets both do 14 dammage, but one is more expencive than the other. Is their a reason for this? Like is one better?

Few explanation on how battles will be done.

A fleet has 2 battle parameters: Range and Formation. Range is what distance your fleet would try to battle with enemy fleet. Each weapon has an optimal range. So depending on range you'll have a max damage or less.

Ranges will be close, medium, far (or you could suggest other names).

Formations. Some of them a good against one formation and bad against other. So if your formation has advantages against enemy formation you'll get a bonus in fight. Also formations will specify which ship classes will be in front and which in back lines, so first damages will go to front lines.

Setting these two parameters and with a bit of luck you'll be able to destroy bigger fleets with you small fighter group

That sounds amazing

Like I could have my flag ship in the back lines, and other smaller/cheaper ships in front to help defend it.

I think that would be really good...just one thing though, we need super weapons These will be really expencive, and really powerful, and only be allowed 1 super weapon per ship. And maybe only battle ships and titans can have them

These can be things that maybe use the surroundings, like solar flare, meteor storm, etc

Must...battle...as...soon...as...possible....

Thats awesome!

Do we have to determine ranges or will you tell us Maverick?

Not really understand your question , but you'll be able to set range and formation for each fleet.

I dont think you determine the range, weapons have their own range, like torpedoes may be long range and turrets short range etc. Depending what you put on your ships will effect its range, if you have both types then it will be able to be used in bothe situations...i think

I think Short, Mid and Long range sound better...not sure though...

You are right. Weapons have predefined range. For example lasers could have short range, torpedo long range.

But what is that range.

How will we know the range?

Is it automatic and we dont have to worry about it?

If i have torpedo ships i dont want them attacking inside a range of another type, i want them at the proper range.

It will depend on formation I think, like if you have back lines, these will have to use long range weapons, front can use short range etc. Its up to you to plan your fleet so it works best.

So, if you have long range in your front lines, these will attack enemy back lines. If your back lines have long range they will attack enemy ront lines. If your center fleet has long range, they will attack enemy center fleet...maybe something like that.

Im starting to notice a slight problem with weapons.

Since the ion and plasma canon both take up 5 slots, the plasma will be picked every time because it does twice the damage.

I think weapons should be like the other systems and never have the same size for two different weapons.

Thats all ive noticed as of now though that seems off.

Thats because they cost more, space isnt so important to need more. Also it takes longer to research. Of course old weapons have little use when new weapons come out, thats why people dont use bows and arrows in wars now

Yeah, I know. But I dont want to have to have less of the powerful weapons. If you have new tech you should be able to get loads on your ships

Well not if its that good. A new awesome weapon shouldnt be smaller then anything, you should only be able to fit a few on, not tons.
