Green how is the development of the other game that you were talking about and what is it about?

Also what is the status of DQ:E and its future?

Good news: we will host DQE at least 1 year, because our company found some funds to pay for hosting.

Bad news: we practically have no time for DQE development
Team, which planned addon for DQE abandoned this idea due to some financial problems

We practically finished design document (current status is ~80-90%, but main huge part of it is done for 100%), made some technical tests for game server cluster and client architecture, designed some basic parts of objects for common code (currently game client can be build for Windows, Linux and (possible) for MacOS X), server cluster will be linux-only, both parts support fullthreading features and unicode texts.
We found lead-artist for ships design and have great storyline for upcoming game - it is based on DQ:Empires alliances, by the way
I plan to made public a little adventure novel in the DQ : Openspace Universe when it will be fineshed (and translated, of cource).
So, just wait - we will drop an email to all our players when we will need testers, but this will be not tomorrow and not next month - because we "just started" coding.

P.S.
Who know, may me Lurchian Religious Haegemony (LRH), Trading Federation (TF), Borzellians (greeting to Brazillian Alliance) and more more others will show they guns one day?
P.P.S. And who know, may be you will see this one http://www.dqteam.com/tmp/1.jpg from your orbital residence ?

What finance does this sort of game need? I thought the biggest cost was paying for programmers/artists etc, and if it is a hobby then wouldnt be nessasary? I know you would need software and hosting but what else? What sort of budget would someone planning a game like this need?

Is it going to be 3D? The ship at http://www.dqteam.com/tmp/1.jpg looks amazing. Is it a human cap ship?

Goodluck, hope it all goes well and I will wait to see it when it is done

Would it be a problem in giving some information on the progress of the game from time to time to the community?

Also that is a nice ship, is it for the human/mercs, or for some other race?

The situation was the following:
DQ:E was finished (at least balanced and tested) and our "sponsor-investor" Vladimir planned to make it "pay for play", but this step was not done - due to some reasons which I can not describe more detailed. Since we are the code authos, but not 100% owners we decided to support game at free time - just to not kill the project. By the other words commercial part of the game failed, but it is not our fault.
Some time ago (last autumn) one of the Vladimir`s friends offered us to make some improvements and make another try to make this project commercial. We are worked on the other project (DQS) and refused this offer - we just gave all game sources to the other team - which worked on this project (addon) not for free. I do not know exactly what was wrong, but AFAIK, this addon was not finished - I can only guess why, but I prefer not say my guesses there.

In any case, if we speak about budget for such kind of games - it consist of: salary, office rent and hosting. If all peoples involved in project are volunteers and work from home - you need only money for hosting - because shared hosting is not suitable for us we rent a dedicated server in USA (~$70 per month). We tried to use free software - game engine use FireBird SQL server, CGI cripts was written in mcedit and compiled with GCC - all game run under Linux. IB Expert tool, which was used for game development and debugging in most cases is free for exUSSR (special thanx for Alexander Khvastunov). So, as you can see al software we are using are free (yes, I know about windows on workstations, but this is another story)

Yes, is will be fully 3D game which require game cllient downloading and internet connection to play - there will be no (at least it is not planning) single version.
Ship from test rendering is human (TF battleship, I hope) ship. Moreover, you will be able to start only for humans. But ther are 4 main forces - 10 000 years from DQ:Empires` time humans divided in 4 fractions - humans itself, Faguroids (they accepted to use Fagurs simbiots), Krongoids (they accepted to use Krong technologies) and Mercenaries.

No, it is not a problem - until we have no publisher and game code belong us 100% we can do anything
But such kind of projects are not finished in 1 year

Human, Trading Federation battleship "Scorpion" ("Varyag", working classification).

Will the new game be free to play/download or is this going to be a comercial game?

What is the polygon count of the model? Looks like it would be quite high. Is this just an idea or for cut scenes or something else?

Approximatelly hardware cost for such games is hundreds of thousans. So, it will be commercial project. But at least beta will be free

140K, we are using hi-poly models for make textures, which will be used for low-poly models (this is like in Unreal, when low-poly look like hi-poly model). But, of course, this is just concept version

, wow, so it is going to be quite big, maybe when this game is big and famous we will be able to say we remember it from the days of DQ:E. Also (if and when) you need beta testers I would be willing to help

Will there be huge battles with hundreds of these ships on each side? Do you have limitations on things like this, being an online game?

Not in hi-poly, but currently planned limit for players per system is 1 000 - I mean online players. Possible it will be more - it depend from hardware capabilities too. But we will see, how it work first
