What is the difference between these? Do they just soak up damage, or does armour increase defence and shields soak up damage or something else?

Armor increase your ship hull points (HP). When your ship gets 0 HP it is destroyed. Shields are another defense level. All damage a taken by shields before it gos to HP. So first shields should go to 0 then armor to 0 to destroy a ship. Shields regenerate each turn. How fast, we'll balance it during tests.

Note that different types of weapons will have some bonus against shield or armor, so having a soup of weaponry on a ship could be a good thing

Ok, thanks. So I guess sheilds are not as good as armor as far as space/cost goes.

I mean a ship with just level 5 armour is better than level 3 armour and level 2 shield, even though the space used is the same?

It could be. Low levels technologies always are less effective then new one. But final values are still ahead and after lots of battles.

I just started making ships that are the epitome of what Maverick just said. They have every weapon on board

Heh, yeah. I have been also. But without knowing what each weapon is best at its kind of hard to build a balanced ship...

BTW, do ships with no computer have 0 attack? Just that it says 0, and with a basic computer says 120, should it be 100 with nothing?
