This thread is for listing and discussing all text that is still needed for the game. Maverick, could you please make this thread sticky? Also edit this post if you want to add/change anything.

This way it will be easy to see exactly what is still needed. I keep forgetting where everything is on the forum, so it will be good to keep it all in one place . I will copy stuff from the other threads here also into one list.

Ok, so everything that still needed is below:

Guide:

Game Basics - A small general description of the game and what can be found in this encyclopedia.
IN PROGRESS: ~ Resources - Describe resources used in game.
DONE:~ Battles
~ Alliances
~ Services

Empire
~Colonies
~Fleets
~Ranking

DONE:Buildings - Here a general description is needed. How they are build, use maintenance, what types they can be etc.
DONE:~Ground Buildings
DONE:~Orbital Buildings

DONE:Ships - describe how ship designer are working.
DONE:~Ship Classes
IN PROGRESS~Ship Components - Here should be a description of components in general and how they can be used for ship designs.

Galaxies - Its about how galaxy map is structured. Something about different galaxies in game and that you can have separate empires in different galaxies.
DONE:~Stars
DONE:~Planets

IN PROGRESS:Science - Needs something more, a bit short right now.

Here is the text for the ships page:

In Delta Quadrant: Horizons, players can design their own ships. Ships can be built with a variety of different components, but your empire must have researched the correct technologies for this component first.

Each ship must also belong to one of the base classes. This affects the amount of space available on the ship, as well as the ships base defence and base speed. A full list of ship classes and details can be found on the Ship Classes page.

Once you have selected a ship class, you can start to equip the ship with any equipment you have the correct technologies for. There are many different types of equipment, each having its own effect on the ships performance. For more information see the Ship Components section.

Ship Designer

To begin designing your ships, you must access the Ship Designer [insert top menu icon for ship designer]. To create a valid ship design you must have researched, at minimum a ship class, and an engine.

Start by selecting the class you want. Then enter a name for your new design.

Next, you will see below are two fields. The first shows the design cost. This is how many production points will be required to build each ship of this type. The second is the available space. This is determined by the ship class, and will limit the amount of equipment that can be mounted on this ship.

To add equipment you must use the menu on the left of the page. You can expand the list by clicking the + sign on the left. To close an open list, use the - sign.

There are two types of equipment, the first can only be equipped once on a single ship. Examples of this type are engines, armour, shields and battle computers. When you have decided on the equipment you want, you can add it to the ship by pressing the ‘Set’ button. It will then be equipped. If you then try and equip another component with the same use, then it will replace the previous selection. The second type includes weapons. You may equip as many of these on a single ship as you have space for. With these you can keep adding components by repeatedly clicking the ‘Add’ button.

You will notice that in the centre of the screen is a list of statistics and weapons for the ship you are designing. You can remove all equipment except engines from your design by clicking the – sign, either by the individual stats that they effect, or by the individual weapon name. You can also increase the number of a particular weapon equipped by clicking the + sign next to the weapon name.

When you have selected all the equipment that you want, you are ready to save the ship design, so that you can then build ships of this type. To do this click the ‘Save Design’ button at the top, and if everything is correct, the design will be saved. You should notice that it is added to the list on the right of the screen.

This list shows all ship designs that you currently have available to build. You may view the details of a design by clicking the + sign by its name. You can also delete a design by clicking [insert red cross symbol] to the right of the name, but only if you do not have any ships of this type in existence.

--------------------------------------

This explains how ships are made in the game, should any other information be added? Such as what ships are used for, how to make/control fleets etc? Or should this be on a different page?

I think better if we have one more sub section for fleets. There we could explain how to make/control them. What are ships used for should be added in ships section though.

Thanks.

Here is a changed version for the top of the Ships page, its got a short description about ships. Should any more be added here? I think its quite obvious what ships are.

----------------------

In Delta Quadrant: Horizons, space ships have several purposes. The most common is as a military unit, but there are other types of ship, such as colonisation ships and freighters.

Players can design their own ships using a variety of different components, but your empire must have researched the correct technologies for these components first.
-----------------------

I will write the fleets part later, when I can build some and test it, all my fleets have gone after reset

I think maybe basics and buildings will be next to do.

Ok, next I think I will write the buildings section. For this you said before:

Quote
Here a general description is needed. How they are build, use maintenance, what types they can be etc.

So, I am thinking a short descriptions about what buildings are for, followed by the different building types (farming, production etc) and what they each are for.

Next a section about costs and maintenance, and link to the individual stats pages.

Finaly a description about the planet screen and ordering/selling buildings etc.

Does anything else need adding? I will try and write this up soon.

Also, I think another section is needed about few other things, maybe these can be sub sections of the 'Basics' section. I think one section about services and another about the score system and player ranking etc. Maybe also a section about alliances (maybe this can come in services sction).

I think, that would be enough.

We definitely need those section. I see them organized as follows:

Basics
- Services
- Ranking
Alliances

Here is some text for the buildings page:

Buildings are a vital part of your empires economy. They produce everything your empire needs, provide a place for your population to work, as well as many other services.

Buildings are separated into two main types, Orbital and Ground Based. The two types function differently due to their location, however they perform the same types of service.

Separate from these two types, buildings are also categorized by the job that they do. There are many types of building, from farming and production, to waste disposal and defences.

Specialists and Buildings

In order for some buildings to be of use, or reach their maximum potential, specialists must be assigned to work in them.

Each building does not have its own specialists, instead assigning a specialist to a particular task, such as farming or production will affect all buildings of that type on the same planet. This means that if you have 3 farming buildings on the same planet, and you assign a single specialist to farming, then all 3 buildings will receive a boost in production, if they are buildings that require specialists.

Other buildings are fully automatic, and do not require any specialists to be assigned to their particular task in order to work. These buildings will work the same no matter what assignments you set.

Building Categories

Farming:

Farming buildings produce food for your population. 1 unit of food is required for every million population. Usually planets must produce enough food for its own population, however if you have spare freighters, then excess food can be brought in from other colonies if you run short.

Production:

Production buildings provide production points for the planet where they are built. These points are required for building anything you may need at that colony, from more buildings to space ships.

Research:

Research buildings produce science points for your empire. These points are required to progress along the tech tree, and research new technologies.

Population:

Population buildings are separated into two types, those that increase max population on a planet such as biospheres, and those that increase population growth rate, such as the Cloning Medical Center.

Defence:

Defence buildings will intercept attackers and help defend your planet. Without defences your planet is an easy target to enemies.

Income:

Spare food and production produced by your planet sells for a small amount of money that is added to your empire treasury. Income buildings increase the amount that you earn from each spare unit of food or production, increasing your empires income.

Maintenance:

Some buildings require money each turn in maintenance costs. This is subtracted from your empire treasury, and if you do not have sufficient funds, the buildings will be destroyed. Maintenance buildings decrease your planets overall maintenance costs, helping your empire run more efficiently.

Pollution:

Your production buildings also produce pollution, and if left unchecked will cause your population growth rate to fall (even become negative), and also effect farming and production on the planet. Pollution buildings help to remove this pollution from the environment, making you planet healthier and more productive.

---------------------------------------------------

I think those are all correct, I couldnt see the guide because the server is down, but as far as I rememer thats right, may need a few changes though, expecialy what the exact building types are called (for example military or defence, production or industrial etc)

I think a description about population is needed somewhere, about how 1 million population = 1 worker, and how workers can be given different tasks, how each requires 1 food, and how polution effects them etc. I said some things about this in this section, but its not really the right place. Maybe another page with all this information could be better?
I will add more soon about maintenance and how to build etc.

Also, some extra information may be needed about military builings, as they are not simple like the others, they each have a different task, such as fire beams, or torpedoes. Some hold troops etc, so this needs to be explained somewhere. Maybe in a different sub section, or on this page?

Also, just a little information about how spare food/production is sold could be useful, I added it here, but maybe it needs to be added somewhere else also, along with base rates etc. Maybe a new section about resources could help. I think the descriptions I wrote here have too much detail for the buildings section, so maybe they would be better explained on a new resources page, and just have simple builing type descriptions here. Details of population could be on the resources page also.

As for resources, you are right. Lets put it in a new subsection (Resources) for Basics.

Military buildings I think should be added as a subsection for Battles.

EDIT: Buildings page done.

Do you still want some descriptions for maintenance and how to build? I think those are needed still.

Ok, for this page I think the icons for each resource should be explained, and explain what the resources are for etc.

Is it possible to make the builings types into a smaller heading type, like the one used on the ships classes page? It will probably be better than lots of main sections

They could all come into one section named 'Building Categories' or something like that.

I also rewrote the descriptions, so they only explain the nessasary information on this page, all other details would be best on the resources page, here it just gets in the way of what the page is really about. I also changed the builing catogory names, so they fit the titles, its best that everywhere uses the same terms, else it may get confusing.

Also, I think it may help that everywhere that it mentions a particular resource, that the symbol is shown with it. It helps players recogonise exactly what its refering to.

Here is the rewrittn version:

----------------------------------------------------

Building Categories

Farming:

Farming buildings produce food [insert food symbol] for the planet where they are built.

Industry:

Industrial buildings provide production points [insert symbol] for the planet where they are built.

Science:

Science buildings produce research points [insert symbol] for your empire.

Health:

Health buildings are separated into two types, those that increase max population[insert symbol] on a planet such as biospheres, and those that increase population growth rate[insert symbol], such as the Cloning Medical Center.

Military:

Military buildings will intercept attackers and help defend your planet. Without defences your planet is an easy target to enemies. Some military buildings also train and hold Soldiers, Mechs and Fighters.

Economy:

Economy buildings increase the amount of income [insert symbol] that you earn from each spare unit of food or production made on the planet where they are built.

Maintenance:

Maintenance buildings decrease your planets overall maintenance [insert symbol] costs, helping your planet run more efficiently.

Ecology:

Ecology buildings remove pollution [insert symbol] from the environment, making your planet healthier and more productive.

Planetary:

Planetary buildings/processes are those that influence an entire planet. A good example would be terraforming. This improves the planets class, giving it a more stable atmosphere, and making it more suitable for supporting life.

---------------------------------------------------------

Also, as buildings and ships require maintenance, and also are built in a very similar way, I was thinking that maybe they should be explained together.

Maintenance can come on the resources page, as in a way it is a negative resource (as is polution), but for building, maybe a page that explains the colony screen may be best. This screen has a lot on it, so it really needs its own page so players can make sence of it...

Maybe a new section named 'Empire' is needed, and under this you could have sub sections for 'Colonies', 'Fleets', and 'Ranking'.

I think the 'Defences' section (when it is written) could be added to the battles section. This is where the battle types are explained, so it should be ok there. Also a few things could be moved to basics.

So, guilde structure would be something like:

Game Basics
~ Resources
~ Battles
~ Alliances
~ Services

Empire
~Colonies
~Fleets
~Ranking

Buildings
~Ground Buildings
~Orbital Buildings

Ships
~Ship Classes
~Ship Components

Galaxies
~Stars
~Planets

Science
~Tech Tree

Tutorials and Guides

Maybe that would work better, as everything related to the players empire is in one main section.

Also, could 'Basics' be renamed to 'Game Basics'? Its just a small change, but may be clearer.

Done.

Actually you are a better adviser what game encyclopaedia should look like I know everything from the inside and sometimes is quite hard to understand what a player is not aware of

Yeah, its quite hard to imagine what a new player would find hard to understand. I guess in beta it will be more clear if its right or not

Just a small change for the buildings page, could the 'Building Catogories' section be switched with the 'Specialists and Buildings' section, so that comes first, and the specialists part is at the bottom. I think it flows better that way, because the descriptions follow the part that says 'Separate from these two types, buildings are also categorized by the job that they do. There are many types of building, from farming and production, to waste disposal and defences.'

After that I think that page is fine

Next I will write the resources page, I will post it up when its done.
