Im not quite sure about the Fagur or Merc races, but Krong seems to be the only one who has to warp buildings from Core. I think it would be cool if you could establish multiple cores for lots of money, or be able to build from and colonized area.

Mercs do not have buildings but have to send all fleets from the base. Humans and fagur can have many planets and can grow/build directly onto that planet. However, krong has the unique advntage of being able to warp M-nodes. If you have enough energy you can send a node almost anywhere in 1 turn (except within systems).

This can be a problem if you do not have enough energy or want to warp I-Nodes.

If you need to put I-Nodes in a distant system or planet, make some U4 and warp them to the area, then transform them back into Y units and morph into somthing else, you will lose some Y units and morphing U4 takes 750000 energy each, but this should be no problem once your empire has grown a bit.

I think that it should take less energy to warp Y units than a U4 though, I would imagine that a U4 made of 250000 Y units would have alot more mass than a single Y unit (unless they are mostly energy???).

This is hard to implement in current codebase. Another teem tried to make DQ:E addon with lot of features (it should be called DQ:W), but as I know this project was frozed due to financial problems.
This project (I mean DQ:E) will be continued by us as hobby - at least until december

P.S. There are some plans for code redesign and refactoring, but I have no idea who can implement this - because we are working on other game project (it is in early stage of development, but it is in the same game Universe as DQ:E).

Does this mean DQ:E will be ended in december or do you mean it will be more than hobby?

How long does developing a game like this take? I know that commercial games takes huge teams of programmers upto a few years to make...

I am intrested in games development and have made a few VERY simple games...I have recently started trying to learn to program with C script and hope to learn alot more.

I made a simple 3D game world with a program I got and it was not too bad

If only I knew enough to offer help, I hope to go to university next year to study Computer Science, mabe in a few years I mabe some help, if you are looking for any

I hope, DQ:E will not be ended until we can handle it - this mean "until we well be able to pay for hosting".
Currently DQ:E is our hobby

Like DQ:E ? As said one of my friends about intro moovie for one game "one month and all life".

DQ:E was rewritten from 0 (first attempt was in 2000) in 5 month and 4 month was for betatesting - so, it was 9 month for 2 programmers at fulltime and 1 artist at part time (and, of course, some artists and programmers helped us for free - you can find all team members in team page).

Heh, by the agreement between us and sponsor we can not publish sources for current codebase. If you will drop me an email I can answe you on some technical questions

Thats quite good, were you already expirienced programmers or did you make DQ:E as a way to learn?

Its somthing evryone wishes to do at some time I expect, if you are intrested go to www.gamedev.net it is a whole site with tons of information all about making games. There are tutorials from making a simple first game to real advanced stuff. There is also a forum with probably thousands of very expirienced programmers who you can ask for help. Some of them also work for the big companies and have worked on the big games evryone knows. There are also thousands of people who are also just learning and you may even be able to join/start a team eventualy to work on a big project.

Right. Online games can not be finished - they can be only released

Both Experienced in some domains, but enhanced our skills during DQ:E development.

That is what makes online games so great aswell, if somthing is not perfect at release it can be changed and new things can be added, players can also have ideas that were not thought about by the designers, this is not easy with most, expecialy console games.

Me aswell, I cant count the hours I probably spend playing games. Even when I am not playing them I am probably thinking about them or trying to design or make my own. That is why having a job making games would be so great, not only doing somthing that you like, but getting paid to do so as well.

have you ever tryed making a game before? I have made a few simple games and it is great, the first time you can play a game you have worked on for a while and actualy see it working is one of the best things

I have a plan for my master game as well and have been planning it for almost 5 years! Only problem is that getting a game published is very difficult, expecialy for consoles. The good news is that some of the next gen consoles are going to be made with individual designers and small teams in mind.

Well, as far as I know almost all comercial games are C/C++ but for online I think you can choose. Obviously some are better than others. If you want to make commercial games then C/C++ is probably the best to learn.

I almost forgot, there are a few programs for making games that need no programming. One I have used is Game Maker, its quite good. Basicaly you make objets and drag and drop different actions for them. You can only make 2D games but it is a good place to start. It normal version is also free to download. You can find it at www.gamemaker.nl
