In future we plan to have some sort of Top. We would like to hear your thoughts and sugestions about how we should calculate empire's score.

I think it should be kept fairly simple, although it is not...
1. All races have their own type of units, their own way of transport, their own needed resources. This means that we can't focus on this to 'measure' the net worth of an empire.
2. If you start to calculate a 'top' while keeping in mind the possible alliances, you will need a system which keeps track of shifting value (which could happen rather fast).
3. Each race has different vues on the notion 'population', so this would also be discarded as an indicator.
Solution A1: I propose to keep track of the number of planets conquered by an Empire (or alliance).
Solution A2: An alternative is to use the total built surface of all the conquered planets of an empire. This gives a better indicator of the 'economic' value of the empire.
Both solutions can work for an alliance, as this is only the mathematical sum of the values of all the empires constituting the alliance.
Thoughts?

But Mercenaries has no planets at all
How we can calculate Mercenary strenght ?
There is another idea: to calculate ingame money equivalent of all what player has, using fixed prices of all goods. By substracting start values we will get "Empire cost". May be we will mixt all those criterea and offer not one, but several ratings: by planets, by resources, by empire cost, etc.
What about this ?

I like the Idea to have multiple scores. Main score being the total value of the empire if everything was sold. We could also have a total defanse and a total offense value. Number of planets/systems, number of ground-space occupide/ base-size for mercs.

But that just changes the problem to how do we fix a price? I'm afraid I don't know all the races well enough to see how big a problem this is, but if it's possible I think this would be a very good measure of an empires worth, and therefore a good score.

Those ideas are already implemented in score calculation. You see the races are so diferent that we were forced to make 4 top scores for each race enstead of 1. Now your score denotes the "economical" strength of your empire. That includes all your planet, buildings, techs etc.
