Hey anything for the good of such a great game. If you know of MPOGD, which is where i found DQ, i have tried probably 60% of all of their free strategy games. Im not kidding, i have, and DQ:E is the only one i still play. I keep looking for different games to play, but none can compare to DQ:E. Plus, if this game is gonna be big and we have a chance to get in on the action, then dadgummit we'll take it
P.S. - What 3d rendering program do you guys use?

So thats how you found DQ:E, I didnt think anyone would actualy find it there...I guess those sites do work then

Yeah, I have played a few online games also, but never stayed for more than a few weeks, most I dont even register for...but I have been playing DQ:E for almost 3 years now and it is better than any others I have played...I think its because the races are so different that you can always do something totaly different when you get bored of one...and also because of the forums...having few players does make it better in that way in that you can talk about anything, in big games people complain if you put too much stuff on the forums, and if a subject goes of topic everyone complains or it just gets locked...but here that happens all the time, and no-one cares, lots of good discussions start that way, even if the thread has nothing to do with it

Yeah, I think that DQ: OS could be great, better than most of the big games out there if its anything like DQ:E...

Hey, I have just been doing some moddeling and made a fighter...and I am really pleased with it.
Its taken a little while, and isnt textured, but I think I have learnt a lot about moddeling from it, I know now that I dont have to have every polygon linked in some way, and can just have bits that are not attached to the main model...that makes things easier, and keeps the poly count lower too.
Anyway, I will try and texture it if I can, and maybe try some other types of ship, and maybe some other stuff, and if that goes well, maybe I can make some models for DQ: OS...maybe...
I think I know how texturing works, anyway, I was thinking about what Green said about using hi-poly models to make textures for low-poly models.
What I thought was to apply a basic texture to the hi-poly model so that it gets shading and shadow and things, and then take a screen shot of the model, then take bits of that to use that as the texture for the low-poly model...also the program I am using allows you to texture the model from any direction, so I can take a screen shot, then texture a small area of the low-poly ship with any parts that face the same direction, and then work around the model texturing it all.
I dont know if that will work, or if thats whats normaly done, but I think it should be ok...only thing is I dont know how all the textures will join up...that could be a problem...
Anyway, I will post back when I have tryed some more stuff, and maybe even have some models to show

Anyone still here? I get the feeling I am talking to my self...But whats new?
Anyway...I tryed to make human models and spent quite a while making hair for the characters, and I think I have found a real great way of making it, it works very well for long hair (a lot of games characters have long hair for some reason), but takes alot of polys, so is probably best for making textures. Anyway, what I did was to make hundreds of very long but very thin polygons, almost like individual hairs, then make these into the correct shape, not quite sure why it worked, think it was something to do with the way the polygons divide, but it looks realy good and they are almost wavy...and even without texturing it looks good. Anyway, I think this is a good way to make textures for characters hair, but 700+ polys is a bit too much just on hair, except maybe in cut scenes where it dont matter...
Anyway, I tryed it with less polygons and even managed to divide them all in half for just less than 500 polygons, meaning I can even add realistic movement to the hair, like for when a player runs the hair will move, and maybe I can even make it effected by the wind...thats going to be difficult, not sure how I can get the correct direction and things, but it says that with bones animation you can combine movements, so maybe its possible to use 'bones' for the hair, then make animations for different wind directions and even speeds, and then add this animation to the character while they do other things...if it works then that will be amazing, but takes a VERY long time
Anyway, thats what I have done for now, I will try some more suff, but I really am starting to like moddeling now, but it just takes so much time
